About us

This is the Official Page of UNICEF Tanzania. UNICEF has been on the ground in Tanzania since 1954 as part of its emergency operations, though the office was set up in 1975. Since then, UNICEF’s support to Tanzania has taken many forms guided by the changing situation of women and children in Tanzania as well as the Organization's priorities. UNICEF plays a unique role in Tanzania as an advocate for children’s rights, identifying gaps in their realization, providing technical advice and assistance to the Government in addressing the gaps, and bringing evidence to the table. UNICEF will not stop until every child has every right!

  • Girls are #TakingOver 🙌🏾 We welcomed Modesta, Salome, and Martha to UNICEF Tanzania, where they took over the Development Partners Group – Gender Equality meeting. They joined powerful conversations on advancing girls’ rights and later met with UNICEF Representative, Elke Wisch, to share how gender-based violence and child marriage are affecting girls in their region of Katavi. Girls are speaking up, leading change, and showing that their voices matter 💙 #GirlsTakeOver2025 #IDG2025 Plan International

Provision of Essential Treatment in Critical Illness - Tanzania (POETICTz)

“I was very scared when Gidion became so weak and sick… but when the nurses and doctors acted so quickly, I had hope my son would have a second chance.” – Irene, Gidion’s mother 💙 When 8-month-old Gidion arrived at Vwawa District Hospital critically ill with diarrhoea and sepsis, health workers trained in Essential Emergency and Critical Care (EECC) acted fast—giving IV fluids, antibiotics, and close monitoring. Within days, he recovered and went home healthy in his mother’s arms. 💙 Every child deserves this chance. Through the government-led EECC in Tanzania (EECCiT) initiative, supported by the Wizara ya Afya Tanzania , UNICEF Tanzania, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), and Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada via the CanGIVE initiative, more hospitals are being equipped to deliver this vital care. 👉 Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/dUXnffK8

  • Access to clean water is a right #ForEveryChild. Together with TANZANIA RED CROSS SOCIETY and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, UNICEF has brought safe water to Katerela village in Biharamulo, once the epicentre of Marburg Virus Disease. The interventions included drilling a new borehole, installing a solar-powered pumping system, constructing a 50,000L storage tank, and extending water distribution points to a school and a healthcare facility. With these efforts, 3,734 community members, including school children, now have reliable access to clean and safe water, strengthening infection prevention and control measures against future public health outbreaks.

  • Stories never get old — they just get new pages📖✨ This #InternationalLiteracyDay, we are reminded that literacy goes beyond reading and writing. It's also about giving children and young people the skills they need to learn, connect, and thrive in today's fast-changing world. Whether it's through books in hand, community learning spaces, radio lessons, or digital tools, every child deserves the chance to explore, imagine, and grow. 💙 #ForEveryChild

  • Kutana na our #ShujaaWaIjumaa🌟 In many communities, mental health struggles often go unseen. But for Japhet, a dedicated Senior Social Welfare Officer and child rights advocate, his mission is to ensure that no child or family is left behind.
